Here are my thoughts for the first part of Heart of Darkness.

• "We four.." For people on the journey???
• The lawyer and accountant important?? Names?? Main characters??
• Second page paragraph starting with "Forthwith a change.." represents all the men who are out at sea?
• "..has been one of the dark places on earth." symbol of darkness
• "The conquest of the earth, which mostly means the taking it away from those who have a different complexion or slightly flatter noses than ourselves, is not a pretty thing when you look into it too much." shows against race and color
• "Flames glided in the river, small green flames, red flames, white fklames..." COLORS!!!!!
• "But there was on yet the biggest, the most blank, so to speak-that I had a hankering after." Africa????
• Mentions darkness within part 1 alot
• " The edge of a colossal jungle, so dark-green as to be almost black.." Mentions darkness??
• Vague images of dark colors/ things
• First mention of a white man by saying a white man.
